About Charlevoix

Beautifully situated on Lake Michigan, at the gateway to Little Traverse Bay, Charlevoix’s strong sense of community creates an ideal place to live regardless of your generation. Young and old proudly pull on maroon and white for sporting events throughout the school year. Hundreds of residents gather each May to plant petunias up and down the city’s streets and then meet in the park for community picnic. Charlevoix is a place where people know you by name. You are also surrounded by water everywhere: Lake Michigan, Lake Charlevoix, Round Lake and the Pine River Channel.
Charlevoix Area Hospital provides medical care at a level of quality rarely found in a small community. The 44-bed acute care facility recently completed a $9 million expansion project that includes a heliport, larger ER, state-of-the-art Intensive Coronary Care Unit, and an expanded birthing center. And Charlevoix is home to its own municipal airport, which has new terminal and extended runway than can accommodate small jets.
Religious faith is an important component in the life of many residents. Charlevoix’s community spirit is also bolstered by more than 70 civic and charitable organizations, and this spirit is especially demonstrated in Charlevoix’s commitment to its children. A new high school includes an auditorium and the two-story academic wing with its classrooms and media center:
The elementary school has new classrooms and media center, accommodating students K-4. The original high school was converted to middle school with two wings, one for upper elementary students in grades 5-6 and the other for students in grades 7-8.
Parents can also choose to send their children to one of the community’s private or charter schools. St. Mary’s Catholic Church operates a K-6 private school. Northwest Academy is a 6-12 public charter school, which emphasizes science, technology and the arts. Charlevoix Children’s House, a Montessori School for ages 2 ½ through kindergarten, puts the emphasis on children learning at their own pace.
Charlevoix the Beautiful radiates beauty inside and out. From caring residents to sandy beaches to quality education and health care. Charlevoix is a sight to behold, for a vacation or a lifetime.
